About Carl Johan Fürst
Dr Carl Johan Fürst is an oncologist who works to make end of life as comfortable as possible for patients when there is no cure. In the 1980s, he founded Radiumhemmet’s consultancy directed at other care units to ensure dignity in the treatment of terminal cancer patients. Moreover, Dr Fürst has been a leading figure in the development of palliative care at Stockholms Sjukhem.
Dr Fürst is chief physician and since 2013 Professor of palliative medicine at Lund’s University. He is also the director of the Institute for Palliative Care at Lund University and Region Skåne. He is affiliated with the Department of Oncology-Pathology at Karolinska Institute and divides his time between research, development, supervision, and active clinical practice.
